Weekly 8: Multi-Shaft Album Weave

This week, I explored weaving using an 8 shaft loom, which I found to be a very different experience from the cricket loom. It was much easier to do patterns other than basic tabby, and I took the time I had on this loom to play around with what I could.

I began with a 1-3 twill I drafted in class, then moved on to its inverse to see how it would look.

After my first structure, I ended up experimenting with how different structures looked, and it got a little bit chaotic as I went on due to losing my place in my plans, though that reflects the music playlist I put on, which is, in fact, incredibly chaotic.

Overall, I tried six distinct non-tabby structures, and the lift plans for all of my structures are pictured here:

I found this week’s work to be very interesting, and having time to play has given me the confidence to use these new looms.
