Weekly 11: Put it in a Pocket

This week, I experimented with a two layered weave structure and more circuitry components. I used the loom tied up in a block pattern so that I could create a closed pocket in the middle of my weave. As I was still getting the hang of this double weave structure, I stuck with the simple lift plan for this tie up given to us in class.

I incorporated conductive thread as a supplemental weft, first using it only on the top layer, then using it only on the bottom layer. This helped to cement my understanding of how this weave structure works because I was able to figure out how to make the string only be on the top layer, or only on the bottom layer.

Before I closed up the pocket, I placed conductive felt into it in order to create a force sensor. I then completed the weave using tabby.

I feel like this week’s exploration was very useful for my learning of how to weave, as it cleared up how exactly multiple layers can be formed on a loom.
